Loopt In…Tweet Out!!!

Posted by : Kaushik

Loopt screenshotIn a very interesting twist, the recent wave of popularity of the ‘Twitter’ is somewhat on the wane. Part of the reason is that, much though it claimed to be a ‘Spot Yourself’ application, it never gave any geographical cue. If you looked at ‘Twitter’ App site, it just looks like a series of tweets without any visibility of where they were done.

Now that is going to change with the new ‘Loopt’. The advantage is obviously the integration of location based micro-blogs to the geographical data….namely Google Maps! Now that’s a heck of a powerful experience. You immediately have a reference. And conversely you can actually pull up peoples’ notes (or Tweets, Loopt will have to come up with a name or….) as soon as you spot yourself with the embedded GPS tool.

What’s more intriguing, it offers you a kinky feature of locating your friends’ whereabouts!! We can obviously imagine a lot of interesting use of that one. The trends in the Location Based Services are getting more and more interesting!!

And after becoming the iPhone App of the month, ‘Loopt’ has made the great entry into the G1 Android Phone, powered by the Google mobile OS. Not really surprised…I must say!

It’s truly fantastic! The internet wave is so much refreshingly different from the days when we used to logon to our shell accounts (you just have 15 minutes on it son, there’s a long queue) from the university terminals to logon to a text based yahoo or khoj.com…

Should we swear by the logic of the binomial distribution bell or should we swear by the faith in the bottom bells! It’s full circle in so much an interesting way. First, we logged on to something to stay connected, then we got laptops with an hour of mobility (read:limited battery life)… and now we have things on our phones. Most importantly, instead of we plugging into the network it’s the network plugging into us. But yes, this is the second post in the last few days to talk about how tweeting may be passe very soon… Wired carried an article on how the Blog age is near demise; the sense of acceleration is felt multifolds by your post… yes, even tweeting will be dead or re-incarnated in a more meanginful form with more power and true mobility in your very hands (all the time).

Thank you for your cogent thoughts. You might like to see this very interesting paper from Univ. of Kent, it discusses how we moved from ‘telling the computer how to’ to ‘asking the computer what to do’

Hi, I have recently started hosting it on a private domain. And my permalink settings have gone for a toss. I have also lost the page ranks. Thinking of a way to fix this. Thank for your feedback.

The problem looks solved. Actually I left the ‘rewrite page title’ option on in the SEO plugin. Thanks
